General & Wisdom Teeth Extractions

While our primary goal in dentistry is to preserve your natural teeth, there are instances where a tooth is too damaged or infected to be saved. In such cases, it’s essential to have a dentist you can rely on for a gentle and precise extraction. At U9 Dental, we offer expert extractions for both standard cases and wisdom teeth removal. Our focus is on ensuring that you feel safe and comfortable throughout your procedure while helping you achieve better oral health. Whether your extraction is necessary due to a diseased tooth, dental trauma, or problematic wisdom teeth, our experienced dentist provides the skillful care you need. We also focus on long-term oral health, taking steps to preserve your jawbone and offering quality tooth replacement options. With our compassionate care, you can address your dental issues and regain a healthy, functional smile.

Why Tooth Extraction?

Tooth extraction involves the complete removal of a tooth and is often recommended as a last resort. The procedure is typically necessary due to advanced gum disease, severe tooth decay, impacted wisdom teeth, or as part of orthodontic treatment.

While preserving your natural tooth is always the priority, there are times when the tooth is too damaged or infected, making extraction the best option to protect your overall health. Removing the problematic tooth opens the door to new treatments that can restore both function and appearance.

Types of Tooth Extractions

At U9 Dental, we offer two types of tooth extractions:

Simple Extraction: For teeth that are fully visible and can be easily removed, a simple extraction involves loosening the tooth before removal. Our general dentists ensure the process is as comfortable as possible.

Surgical Extraction: Used for more complex cases, such as impacted, partially erupted, or severely damaged teeth. This procedure requires a small incision in the gum and may involve breaking the tooth into smaller pieces for easier removal. We use a local anesthetic.

Our U9 Dental Tooth Extraction Process

Once we determine that a tooth extraction is necessary, the entire procedure is completed in a single visit. Using digital X-rays and advanced imaging, we carefully evaluate the tooth and develop a precise treatment plan. Before the procedure begins, we will numb the area and provide sedation options to keep you comfortable. After the extraction, we’ll place gauze over the site to aid healing, and, if needed, provide additional treatments like bone grafting to maintain jawbone integrity for future dental implants.

Immediate Implant Placement: If you need a front tooth extracted, our dentists offer Immediate Dentoalveolar Restoration (IDR), allowing us to place a dental implant on the same day as the extraction. This technique involves using a small piece of bone from the wisdom tooth area to create a stable foundation for the implant post. Over time, the post fuses with the surrounding bone, and once healed, a custom crown is crafted to restore your smile.

Reasons for Dental Extractions at U9 Dental

Tooth extractions are only recommended when the tooth poses a greater risk to your oral health than the benefits of keeping it. Common reasons for extraction include:

  • Tooth Decay: When a cavity goes untreated, it can reach the pulp, causing infection. Extraction may be necessary to prevent further decay and damage to surrounding teeth.
  • Dental Damage: Severe trauma that cannot be repaired with a crown or bonding may require extraction to alleviate pain and protect the rest of your smile.
  • Dental Abscess: A severe infection in the tooth root can sometimes be treated with a root canal. However, if the infection persists or recurs, extraction may be the best option.
  • Wisdom Teeth: When wisdom teeth become impacted or cause crowding, misalignment, or other complications, extraction is often recommended to protect neighboring teeth and oral structures.
